¡Hola! Thank you for visiting Slopes and Tangents (Vertientes y Tangentes). My name is Juan Baez, and I have been a personal trainer and physical educator for over 20 years. Throughout my career, I have worked in different environments, with different clients, and with distinctive styles. While it has been an enriching experience, I have also seen how (often) the things that we consider healthy have a dark side. I have also been a personal chef, line cook, caterer, home baker, and cooking instructor.
In this space, I share a bilingual newsletter (and sporadic podcast) about Physical Education for Adults, delicious recipes, personal essays, and curiosities.
Sections
Home: This is where everything comes together. Here you will find all my latest publications.
Notes: This is a social corner where I share images of the foods I cook, nature hikes, gardening, and reshare my publications. Follow me in Notes to engage in conversations.
The Void (Writing): Here, I explore the depths of my consciousness, creativity, and writing. I share about personal stuff or about what I find in the depths of my imagination. Enter at your own risk!
It’s Food o’ Clock: I don’t know if I can call myself a gourmand like Jim Harrison or Anthony Bourdain, but I love food. Here, you’ll find recipes in traditional and non-traditional formats. I like to give soul and imagination to my recipes and share about food history and mysticism.
Navigating Fitness: I share recommendations, comments, and professional opinions on health and fitness. I also explore the dark side of these topics and their negative effect on public health. Not everything that is #fit, #motivation, or #success is actually healthy. I treat this as a Physical Education class for adults - focused on learning, developing critical thinking, self-reliance, play, and exploration, not on training or trends.
Book: Navigating Fitness: This section is dedicated to general information about my book Navigating Fitness (in progress). Here, you can sign up for the email list to get a notification and 10% off once the book is out, see a presentation, and get updates on this project's progress.
Archive: Another place to find all my publications.
About: More information about me (in English and Spanish).
This is a work in progress, and it shapes as I go. Any ideas or recommendations are always welcome.
