Celebrating 50 subscribers, and an update.
"whoever you are, wherever you are, whenever you read me (and or listen), thank you."
Hey guys, I hope you are doing well. With this post I want to celebrate having reached 50 subscribers (Hell yeah!) and give you an update of what's going on in the back kitchen. Remember to hit like and leave a comment, and if you haven't done so, subscribe. Its free.

Celebrating fifty (Hell yeah!)
This is kind of awkward because when most writers I've seen celebrate their subscribers, they talk about hundreds, or thousands. I just got fifty and I am excited. I am a believer in slow growth.
I take a Wu wei approach to my newsletter and podcast. Effortless action. While I do want it to grow, I made the decision, early on, to take it easy and focus on becoming a better writer.
Anyways, whoever you are, wherever you are, whenever you read me (and or listen), thank you. Remember that more than a subscriber you are part of this project, and your comments also give essence to it. Whenever possible, say something about what I post to engage in conversation. I appreciate your support, and I will appreciate it even more if you also share and invite others to join.
Post and writing frequency
It's been a while since I post something. There are two main reasons for this. One is that I have been doing reviews and quality assurance to learning programs at work and it sucks my energy to write or do podcast. Each break I get is a breather or space to do something else that requires my attention, like taking mandatory professional development classes (of which I do not complain at all), and job searching.
I like what I do and the people I work with, but I am looking to find something with more hours, benefits, and all that.
Another reason for not posting much is my book, Navigating Fitness. I finished another review a while ago and I am working on a formal podcast presentation (ready to share soon), and some marketing material.
Writing a book is hard work and requires great mental and emotional strength. It also requires determination, which is hard to keep while swimming the realities of life and battling anxiety. I am planning at least two more reviews to make sure that things are well written and that the message is authentic and simple, before deciding a release date, price, etc. I am also working on other possible covers. If you are interested in learning more about my upcoming book scan the code below… and here is a little teaser:
What's coming
Podcast
My following podcast episode is almost ready. Since I am running a series about the Physical Education of the Human Senses, I will be narrating a guided exercise to liberate the senses. Nothing crazy or mystical, just something to create, or potentiate, sensory awareness. The idea is to just sense the world around a little better.
This is a first for me. After two decades teaching Phys. Ed. classes and explaining exercises in person, video, and in writing (with pictures) I will be experimenting with doing so in a podcast format.
The Void
Although It's Food o'clock and Navigating Fitness are the main sections in this site, The Void is that space where I escape to when I want to explore personal stuff, and topics that are not food or fitness related. I am putting the final touches to a fictional story about a civilization of bacteria that lives in my outdoors firepit (about beings that live between fires and that have found a way to tell their story).
I love to gaze at fire. It is mesmerizing, and when combined with its warm touch, crackling melody, and its smoky aroma, I love it even more. So much so that it inspired me to write a story based on it.
It's Food o’ Clock
Of all the things in my head for this section there are two topics that I am working on that I am fascinated about. One is garlic. Did you know that garlic was probably the first medicine ever used? Another topic is stone crabs, a Florida favorite that graduated from being an annoyance to a delicacy. As always, I will be trying to take a historical and anthropological approach to these, highlighting their origin as well as their storytelling aspects. I have other ideas, but I am also interested in knowing what foods or recipes you are interested in and would like me to cover with that same approach. Let me know in the comments.
I am fascinated and inspired by food and cooking, and there are also a few recipes that I want to share, as well as some more book reviews. Recently my sister-in-law brought us a cookbook that belonged to their grandma, and that is from an old Puerto Rican TV food hosts (Luis Antonio Cosme), who had a show called Frying and Eating (Friendo y Comiendo). I need to do a little more research about this one, because my memory of it is dated, but I am excited about this review.
I used to sit with my mom and watch his show. He always had a big smile and an unequivocal voice, which paired perfectly with his cooking style (entertaining, evoking, and inviting).
Navigating Fitness
The Physical Education of the senses continues. After the podcast exercise I mentioned above I will start discussing the individual senses. I’ll begin with smell, which is an underappreciated sense in the world of fitness and wellness, and often overstimulated by feel good aromas. This series will take some time, but there are other topics I will be sharing along the way. Is there a fitness and wellness topic you'd like me to discuss? Let me know in the comments.
What's the word?
I will be eliminating this section due to lack of use.
Paid Content
Consider becoming a paid subscriber for $5.00 a month (or $40 for a year). Cheaper than coffee, Netflix, and magazines. I know I don't have hundreds of followers, but this is not about how many people read or listen to me, but about what you get from it. So, why become a paid subscriber? The Movement Club, a space to learn about (improve and potentiate) your own movement and fitness through observation, exploration, play, and conversation.
After extensive observational research and finding perspective, I came up with a subscription content format that I actually like. It allows me to offer something unique and that satisfies a need that the fitness and wellness industry is lacking, which is slowing down, learning, and self-reliance. This is part of my concept of Physical Literacy and Education for Adults. Think of it as a book club, but for movement. I will do a post introducing the concept deeper within the month, but the idea is simple: Observe, explore, play, and discuss. While fitness is involved, this is not a workout program, but a learning and mindfulness one, aiming for a different kind of result.
Besides the movement club, your subscription will help with my book project. It is a self publishing endeavor and any penny counts. Paid subscribers will have a 15% discount to purchase the book when it comes out.

That's all people. I want to say thanks again for helping me get to fifty subscribers. I appreciate your support and I hope that more people join. Don't go anywhere and help me grow more by sharing. This is great motivation for me to continue keeping creative engine running. Leave a comment below. ¡GRACIAS!
